Signs My Jaguar’s Head Gasket Is Cracked

Did you know that California Autohaus can take excellent care of your Jaguar? We can, including if you blow the head gasket. We aren’t going to lie, however. A blown head gasket will require extensive repair work to the engine. If you love your Jaguar, it will be worth the work. Let’s talk about the signs of a blown head gasket below so you know what to look for in your Jaguar.

An Overheating Engine

A blown head gasket is a cracked head gasket, and a number of things happen when the head gasket cracks. One of the first things that happens is the engine starts to lose coolant through the crack. The coolant will leak into the combustion chamber because the seal that the head gasket created is now compromised. Unfortunately, this will reduce the level of coolant in the Jaguar’s engine.

In addition, the engine will be introduced to the heat in the combustion chamber that was originally sealed off by the head gasket. As you can imagine, this heat is intense. Consequently, the engine will get so hot that the coolant will start to boil. It is crucial that you pull the Jaguar over and turn off the engine to avoid damaging it further. Have the Jaguar towed to our shop.

The reason why we recommend you avoid driving it is that the engine will be hot no matter what you do and every time you drive the Jaguar. The engine will continue to lose coolant, and the heat from the combustion chamber will continue to rise into the engine until you get the head gasket replaced. Consequently, driving the Jaguar could cause additional and expensive engine damage.

Problems With the Oil

In addition, when the head gasket cracks, you end up with problems with the motor oil. Specifically, some of the oil will leak out of the engine and into the combustion chamber just like the coolant does. Additionally, the coolant and the motor oil will mix together to create something that looks like a milkshake. As this milkshake circulates through the Jaguar’s engine, it will damage it.

White Engine Exhaust

Finally, when the coolant and the motor oil leak into the combustion chamber, they are burned away. This can create white exhaust or bluish-white exhaust. Your Jaguar will release this exhaust until you have the head gasket replaced.
